Portal & Evil Monastery Map
Raiden appears before your kombatants upon your entry into the Portal. He tells you that he will try to hide his presence in this realm from Shang Tsung so that he does not draw unwanted attention.
He also says that if you find Sonya you should be cautious, as this realm changes even the most honourable of warriors. She may no longer be an ally.
After Raiden disappears, defeat the Shadow Priests in this area. Watch out for their magic, as it does substantial damage to you. Avoid standing still for too long; make good use of projectiles, pop-up attacks and air combos.
Red Koin Location #18
Available only in ko-operative playthroughs
Travel left up the ramp to an area with two glowing tiles. Stand on each tile to extend a platform that you can then use to climb up to a higher area and collect a red koin.
Reward:
Unlocks the Wasteland arena for Versus mode.
Travel back down the ramp and continue right until you reach a pathway that extends away from the camera. Heading down this path, you will be confronted by some Demon Captains who wield dangerous blades that can do major damage. Use your evasive techniques to dodge their attacks, then move in and unleash a myriad of combos.
Once you have disposed of them, continue along the path and enter the blue portal at the end to be transported to the Evil Monastery.
After jumping out of the portal, you will catch a glimpse of Princess Kitana who encourages you to come and do battle with her before retreating.
Travel up the large staircase into the monastery. Raiden appears briefly to say that he believes that your presence is still a mystery to Shang Tsung. He continues to say that you cannot defeat Shang Tsung alone, and that there is a powerful ally named Kitana that could be of great use to you. He says that this place was once a land of indescribable beauty, but it has been corrupted by secret evil alliances. He warns you to protect your heart from its evil before vanishing.
After entering the room ahead, a number of demons will enter through the stained glass windows above. You cannot continue without the aid of two spikes, so continue up the stairs and trigger the Test Your Might switch to your left. Two sets of spikes raise on the lower level.
Jump down to the level below and wait for the Demon Archers and Captains to follow. Your aim is to throw an enemy onto each pair of spikes. Once you achieve this, a door on the upmost level will open, allowing you to progress.
Red Koin Location #19
Available in both single player and ko-operative playthroughs
Head up the stairs to an unbroken stained glass window. Smash it with a projectile to expose a gold koin. Throw a projectile at it to make a red koin appear.
Reward:
Unlocks a new concept art.
When you are done, continue along the balcony and enter the newly opened doorway.
After a short scene in which Kitana entices you to follow her, head up the staircase, making sure to pick up the weapon on your way.
This next area contains three types of enemy: Demon Archers, Demon Captains and Demon Handlers. Your goal here is to throw one of these enemies onto the row of spikes at the back of the room and use them as a platform to reach the higher level.
Red Koin Location #20
Available only in ko-operative playthroughs
Stand on each of the two tiles in this room to reveal a secret passage to another area. Once you have gained the Fist of Ruin ability, use it to smash a statue at the back of the room. A gate will open, allowing you to access a red koin.
Reward:
Unlocks the Tower arena for Versus mode.
Back in the previous area, use an impaled enemy to gain access to the higher level. Climb the stairs and follow the balcony past the stained glass windows and exit through the doorway.
There is a heavy enemy presence in this next room, so be aware of your surroundings. Watch out for the Demon Generals who have very fast and powerful attacks. If you are low on health, keep your distance and use projectiles on them or ignore them completely.
Red Koin Location #21
Available in both single player and ko-operative playthroughs
Throw an enemy into each hand of the large statue. A red koin will appear behind its head.
Reward:
Unlocks a new concept art.
After collecting the koin, follow the staircase and balcony past the windows to the exit.
You will notice that this new area is very quiet. Walk past the Shadow Priest and collect the koin in the centre of the room to earn the ability to perform Multalities.
Once you have collected the koin, many more enemies will appear. You will need to perform a Multality to progress, so build up your Fatality Meter by attacking the surrounding foes. When you are able to, perform a Multality using the aid of the on-screen help.
When this area is empty, travel right toward a portal being blocked by two statues. Make your way up the tower using the platforms provided. There are three areas where you will need to leap over a pit of spikes and defeat several enemies to lower the gate allowing you to continue. To avoid excessive health loss, throw the Demon Captains off the edge of the platform and defeat the remaining Shadow Priests using projectiles and air combos.
After defeating all enemies you will find more large steps. Climb up, making sure to avoiding the rolling pillar Kitana knocks down. Make your way around the wall to find a glowing statue. Save your game if you wish, then continue till you reach more steps.
Climb them to find Kitana at the very top in front of a portal. She introduces herself as the loyal daughter of Shao Kahn, and after stating that you are enemies of this realm she moves in for her attack. Avoid her steel fans and make good use of your projectile and air attacks.
When you have depleted about half of her health, she will escape via a portal. Raiden appears briefly and says that she is under the control of a spell and that you must release her. Your kombatants follow her into the portal.
You emerge from the portal on a large platform. Kitana continues to attack as the ground below you crumbles; you barely make it to the stable platform. One of your kombatants jumps onto her shoulders and propels her into the centre of the platform where two large gargoyle statues shine light on her. The lights create a force field, trapping her inside.
Two Outworld assassins, Mileena and Jade, appear from a portal and free Kitana using the controls nearby. You must now face all three kombatants at the same time.
Boss Fight
Kitana, Mileena and Jade
While this fight is difficult, keeping a clear objective throughout will help you greatly. Damage dealt to Mileena and Jade will not carry onto the next section of this fight, so focus on attacking Kitana, hitting Mileena and Jade only if they become a problem. When you have weakened Kitana enough, your character will throw her into the centre of the platform. She will be bound by the force field once again that will free her of the spell. During this time, Mileena and Jade will attempt to free her. Keep them away from the force field’s controls until the spell time has expired.
Once Kitana has been freed of the spell, focus your attention on Mileena and Jade. Make good use of the two traps nearby as they deal big damage to them both. Use your projectiles and air combos to gain the upper hand, making sure to keep a close eye on them both.
When both of the assassins are low on health, you may perform a Fatality. Follow the on-screen instructions to end the fight.
After the battle, Kitana thanks you for your help. Your kombatants introduce themselves, and tell her that they are here to stop Shang Tsung from attacking Earth. She tells you that it is not Shang Tsung who wants Earth, much to the surprise of your kombatants.
Kitana boils when she realises you killed her best friend Jade. Your kombatants apologise, before Kitana questions the location of Reptile. She says that if Mileena is here, so is Reptile. Mileena seizes the moment and makes her attack, escaping through a portal. Kitana says that she cannot let her escape and follows her, much to the objection of your kombatants.
Collect the koin in the centre of the platform to gain the Fist of Ruin ability. Gather the experience around the room before exiting the area using the portal in the background.
Raiden appears briefly to tell you that defeating Shang Tsung’s allies will make him vulnerable to attack. He continues to say that through portals you will find more battles and more ways to defeat him.
Red Koin Location #22
Available in both single player and ko-operative playthroughs
If you return to the area in which you just fought Kitana, Mileena and Jade via the portal, you will find a red koin.
Reward:
Unlocks a new concept art.
Make your way back down the tower. Whenever a gate blocks your path, use your newly acquired Fist of Ruin ability to crush it and lower the gate. Continue your descent until you reach the two statues blocking the portal.
Red Koin Location #23
Available in both single player and ko-operative playthroughs
When you have the Double Jump ability, climb onto the broken pillar to your left. From here, double jump up onto the roof where you will find a red koin.
Reward:
Unlocks Kitana as a playable kombatant in Versus Mode.
Use your Fist of Ruin ability to smash the two statues. When the path is clear, enter the vortex in front of you to return to the Portal.
You will see Reptile briefly before he vanishes into a portal. Follow him by travelling toward the camera, then up a ramp to the right.
Defeat the Shadow Priests to raise a pathway, allowing you access to the portal. Enter the vortex to be transported to the Living Forest.
