As anticipation for the first Mortal Kombat feature film in 24 years continues to grow, Warner Bros. have released a behind-the-scenes featurette to help appease fans’ appetites.
Director Simon McQuoid speaks of his desire to respect both the material and fans of the franchise, and hopes that 2021’s reboot of Mortal Kombat elevates it to an all new cinematic height. The featurette also shows off a number of already seen characters, including a better look at Kabal and Reiko in the flesh.
Intertwined between masses of new footage are many of the key actors giving their take on the film. Having been shot in Australia, the movie features a bunch of Australian talent, including Jessica McNamee who describes being blown away the first time she saw the cast in costume. Max Huang who portrays the hat-wielding Shaolin monk Kung Lao references the need for authenticity when it comes to the movie’s fight scenes and stunts, while Josh Lawson who plays Kano says that it’s mind-blowing what has been achieved.
Mortal Kombat’s 2021 feature film reboot is set to drop in Australian cinemas on April 24, with North America seeing a simultaneous release in cinemas and on HBO Max on April 23.
