Go big or go home — an idiomatic phrase perfectly suited to both Cyrax’s Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay and snippets of the upcoming expansion to Story mode.
Born into the Zaki, one of the Lin Kuei’s many sub-clans in Niger’s Aïr mountains, the now female Cyrax devotes her purpose to defending Earthrealm. Today’s trailer opens to her being actively pursued by Sektor in a forest, much akin to the Mortal Kombat 11 trailer in which Baraka was being chased by Mileena. It looks like the notion of automation is out the window, with both Cyrax and Sektor donning a retractable armoured exoskeleton.
As expected, the drama unfolds early on during the events of Kuai Liang and Harumi’s wedding at the Wu Shi Academy, where the action turns up to 11. Despite her hesitations, Cyrax assists in the ambush which no doubt bends the arch of numerous relationships moving forward.
Backed by an epic audio track, we can confidently stay that this is probably the most fun Cyrax that has ever existed. Many of her moves have been reimagined, from homing bombs and small rockets on her signature green net to acrobatic flips and immobilising foam. While Kameos are notably absent from the expansion, we do get a brief look at a brand new freeze parry for Sub-Zero which looks badass.
With the trailer drawing to a close, we get our first look at one of her Fatalities, as well as a sneak peak at her Animality which looks to be a giant hornet. In addition to the Khaos Reigns expansion and Khaos Reigns bundle announced last trailer, there is now a Khaos Reigns Kollection that also includes the base game and 1250 dragon krystals. All three are available now for pre-order.
Khaos Reigns releases on September 24 and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
