The stage is set at Village Roadshow Studios on Australia’s Gold Coast as production on Mortal Kombat 2 officially begins this month.
Following news of Adeline Rudolph’s casting as Kitana and Tatiana Gabrielle’s as Jade, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that four additional roles have been filled: Martyn Ford (Shao Kahn), Desmond Chiam (King Jerrod), Ana Thu Nguyen (Sindel) and Damon Herriman (Quan Chi).
News of Martyn Ford’s casting as the emperor set social media alight; his 2.03m (6’8″) stature and imposing figure attracting universal praise. The British bodybuilder and influencer has starred in a number of films including Fast & Furious 9, and most recently The Machine. Australian Desmond Chiam’s casting as the ill-fated King Jerrod confirms a storyline that will involve Edenia, a realm of unspeakable beauty that is hugely underrepresented across all mediums. Lesser known Ana Thu Nguyen will portray his wife Sindel, who will no doubt enjoy a short stint of peace of prosperity before Kahn’s invasion. Finally, Australian Damon Herriman (who provided the voice talent for Kabal last time out) joins the fray in the physical sense; his role as the necromancer Quan Chi not to be underestimated.
Despite Kano’s death in the first film Josh Lawson is set to reprise his role, along with Lewis Tan (Cole Young), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Mehcad Brooks (Jax), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Max Huang (Kung Lao), Chin Han (Shang Tsung), Joe Taslim (Sub-Zero), Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion) and Tadanobu Asano (Raiden). Karl Urban has reportedly also signed on to play Johnny Cage.
2021’s reboot proved to be a huge success despite the pandemic, grossing over $84 million worldwide and breaking streaming records for HBO Max. No doubt fans from around the globe are keen to sink their teeth into some genuine cinematic popcorn this time around when it eventually hits theatres globally.
