Momentum continues to build as NetherRealm Studios press on teasing the next title in the Mortal Kombat franchise, tentatively dubbed Mortal Kombat 12.
The studio today released a second teaser trailer, which focuses heavily on the concept of time. In the short clip, a second hand can be seen ticking clockwise from 9 to 10. As the hand reaches 11 it pauses, before oscillating violently. Following a flash of light, the hand skips right over 12 and lands on 1. Eagle-eyed viewers will notice that the reflection on the face of the clock looks like that of last week’s teaser trailer; the “big bang” moment lines up perfectly with the skipping of the 12. The time reads 11:45; whether that has any significance remains to be seen.
Fans have flocked to social media to actively discuss multiple theories, including a reboot, the imagining of the events of the first game, or perhaps a prequel story featuring the Great Kung Lao, which would carry on from Liu Kang’s Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath ending. Either way after many years of relative silence the Mortal Kombat kommunity is back to buzzing!
