In a move no one saw coming, NetherRealm Studios dropped a surprise Mortal Kombat 1 trailer today at Dream Con 2023.
Subtitled “Keepers of Time,” the clip focuses on returning kombatant Geras as he works alongside Liu Kang to maintain the balance of peace. First introduced in Mortal Kombat 11 as a loyal servant to Kronika, Geras is an eternal being of limitless power who retains the memory of innumerable timelines, even in this newest era.
Maintaining his “puzzle-like” appearance and large build, Geras manipulates time and uses brute strength to clobber his opponents into sand. Working alongside numerous Kameos including Sektor and Darrius, his unpredictable fighting style paired with two vastly different Kameos go a long way to show the variety and sheer fun Mortal Kombat 1 is set to bring. We also see alternate versions of a few arenas, as well as two epic Fatalities belonging to Liu Kang and Geras respectively.
Geras is the guardian of the Hourglass: a celestial object which lies beyond the realms. The Hourglass regulates time and destiny.

Voiced by the legendary Phil LaMarr, Geras’ intimidating presence is showcased in a couple of screenshots which were released alongside the trailer.
