Mortal Kombat series co-creator Ed Boon is officially down under, confirming the news over on his Twitter page in the last 24 hours following a number of cryptic tweets about Australia.
First thought to be hinting at a future Mortal Kombat 1 announcement, eagle-eyed fans noticed something was awry. In fact, we responded to one of Ed’s tweets and received a direct response from Mortal Kombat 2 producer Todd Garner, confirming our initial suspicions.
Staying on the resplendent shores of Queensland’s Gold Coast, Ed wasted no time making his way to Village Roadshow Studios to meet with the cast and crew of this latest movie. In fact, he has since posted numerous selfies with a number of familiar faces, including Josh Lawson who is set to reprise his role as Kano. Other notable faces include Chin Han, Jessica McNamee, Joe Taslim, Lewis Tan, Karl Urban and Todd Garner.
While there is no doubt that Ed is on set to observe and provide his creative input, his specific mention of Kameos lends credence to the possibility of his appearance in the movie itself at some point. In fact, if you cast your minds back to 2011 Ed made a surprise kameo in Mortal Kombat: Legacy, where he played the role of Ed Goodman: a TV producer who had previously worked with Johnny Cage. While his role in this new movie will likely be minor, some fans have gone as far as to speculate that Ed himself will land a Fatal Blow on Cole Young, ending his run in the film. Hilarious, but unlikely.
