Following the success of last year’s Mortal Kombat movie reboot it comes as no surprise that work is currently underway on a sequel.
Deadline is reporting that Australian director Simon McQuoid is set to reprise his role as director for the film tentatively titled “Mortal Kombat 2”, following his theatrical directional debut in the first film. Jeremy Slater (best known for his work on The Exorcist TV series and Disney+ miniseries Moon Knight) joins as a writer.
Amid the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic Australia was sought out as an ideal location to film the first movie. Its cast and crew features a number of Australians (Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Sisi Stringer and Matilda Kimber to name a few); it remains to see if Australia’s vast and varied landscape will be utilised again. With Johnny Cage strongly hinted at during the first movie (and the crew publicly stating that they are actively listening to fans) it remains to see what is in store.
