Long Live Mortal Kombat is a work in progress trilogy of books written by author and die-hard Mortal Kombat fan David L. Craddock. The first book in the series, subtitled “Round 1 – The Fatalities and Fandom of the Arcade Era,” launches on Kickstarter on 29 March and covers the franchise’s arcade era spanning Mortal Kombat 1 through 4.
Published in celebration of Mortal Kombat’s 30th anniversary in 2022, Long Live Mortal Kombat: Round 1 features untold stories and interviews from over 60 developers and subject matter experts, including series co-creator John Tobias and former Midway GM Ken Fedesna. It also delves into the Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat rivalry, scrutinises the controversy surrounding violent video games in the nineties and recounts how the multi-million dollar “Mortal Monday” campaign became the biggest marketing push of its era.
