Take a trip down memory lane back to 1995 and you’d be hard pressed to forget the success that was the original Mortal Kombat movie.
While video game movies largely receive negative reviews, Mortal Kombat became an instant classic, ageing like fine wine with its strong cast and unforgettable one-liners. Conversely 1997’s sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation was likened by both fans and critics as a dumpster fire, leaving many to believe that movies based on the franchise were done and dusted. Fast forward, however, and the future looks bright with the release of 2021’s Mortal Kombat reboot a little over a week away from being available worldwide.
Despite its age, the 1995 movie’s iconic “Techno Syndrome” theme song has stood the test of time with its catchy melody, crispy voiceovers and signature “MORTAL KOMBAT” yell. To celebrate the release of the new Mortal Kombat movie, WB’s WaterTower Music label has released its theme song dubbed “Techno Syndrome 2021” on YouTube, available to listen above. Composed by Benjamin Wallfisch, this new theme retains the signature yell while providing an updated electronic and dubstep sound, as well as modern voiceovers.
Mortal Kombat stars Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Chin Han as Shang Tsung and Sisi Stringer as Mileena.
