In what may be one of the franchise’s worst-kept secrets, question marks are once again hovering over the inclusion of Ash Williams as DLC for Mortal Kombat 11.
Following the announcement of the Kombat Pack back in August of 2019, fans were expecting The Evil Dead’s protagonist to make an appearance alongside Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, The Terminator, Sindel and Spawn. The evidence sure seemed to add up, with an entry for Ash discovered in the game’s files, a dialog in the game itself referring to the character, and a coincidental tweet from actor Bruce Campbell himself referring to Mortal Kombat 11 as “a swell game.”
Attention has this morning turned to an email sent out via WB touting the Kombat Pack in all of its glory, but it’s not the content of the email that is turning heads but rather the copyright information in its footer. In amongst the notices is a line referring to the “ASH” character from “ARMY OF DARKNESS,” licensed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc.
Could this be an oversight, or was Ash Williams replaced by The Joker and moved to Kombat Pack 2 due to unforeseen licensing or production issues? Guess we’ll have to wait to find out.
