Big news day! Last night, NetherRealm Studios held their fourth Twitch stream showcasing Mortal Kombat X.
After a display of Cassie Cage’s various moveset, the developers revealed that Brutalities will be returning by performing one with Cassie Cage. They then presented a featurette highlighting how Brutalities will work.
Once finished, they continued to show off a few Brutalities, noting how they differ somewhat from the Brutalities of the past. Brutalities are now performed using regular attacks, however, they will likely require “prerequisites,” much like Mortal Kombat (2011)’s Babalities carried the “no blocking in the last round” prerequisite. While most (if not all) Brutalities no longer result in a long, automatic combo, many can be performed at the end of a combo. And, most noteworthy, there are well over 100 Brutalities present in the game. A recording of the stream is available to watch below:
They ended the stream by announcing that new characters would be announced today! Lo and behold, today a new Story Trailer was released on YouTube featuring not one but multiple new characters. The trailer is available to watch below:
We can only confirm that three characters were revealed playable via the trailer, however, prior to the trailer’s reveal, Ed Boon gave us the following potential hint on his Twitter Page indicating otherwise:
What? 5 character reveals in 1 day?
Among the characters that appeared were two new playable characters from the Mortal Kombat X comics: Jacqueline “Jacqui” Briggs, Takashi Takeda, as well the newly revealed Kung Jin. Each of these new characters are related to a classic character. In addition to these, we get to see five more characters who have yet to be announced, however it can be assumed that one or more of these are mere cameo appearances.
In addition to the three characters named above, we also see appearances from unannounced characters: Shinnok, Erron Black, Mileena, Rain and a zombified Sindel. For those unfamiliar with Erron Black, he appears to be some sort of Outworld bounty hunter, and has only made brief appearances in the comics.
In addition to new characters, we also see appearances of multiple potential unlockable costumes. How many can you find?
Mortal Kombat X will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 when it launches on April 14, 2015.
